Hi,
Was just wondering, does Veeam backup the whole size of a Virtual Machine? We're struggling with a 2.6TB VM when it's only used 1.1TB on it's VHD. Any help is appreciated

Re: VM Size Question
Hi Jack
Is this a tape question?
Backup of VMs are normally Backup Jobs to Disk.
What sort of issues do you see?
Our product will use compression and deduplication in backup jobs when storing a backup file in the repository. Empty blocks and pre-allocated blocks will not be stored in the backup file.

For VmWare and HyperV backup we also have an option to ignore blocks inside the virtual disk which are marked as deleted.
This only works for NTFS. If you have a reFS or another type with blocks marked as deleted, veeam will backup these blocks.
