There's a GPO for Windows Updates that allows a computer to wake up if it's in sleep/hibernation mode. This is located under Computer Configuration, Admin Templates, Windows Components,Windows Update, "Enabling Windows Update Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install scheduled updates".
If you can figure out how to do something similar, it might be useful to those people who use sleep/hibernation mode and the computer isn't actively on when the backup is scheduled. Of course there's nothing you can do if the PC/Laptop has been completely shut down. Just trying to think of something to win that Surface Pro 3

Re: Automatic wake up from sleep?
Hello dcho708,
Wakeup from sleep for scheduled backup jobs feature will be available in the GA version. Of course, there is nothing we can do if you have a tablet with the power saving connected standby mode, however it could be disabled manually.
