Backup to two different location (same shared folder)

Post by Dotmax »

Good morning, i need some info about this scenario:

Laptop with agent configured to do a scheduled full backup.
Destination: shared folder on nas
Hosname of the nas: \\nasbak\veeam\laptop

i have two different location (home and office)
in both locations i have a nas with that hostname (and same folder and same credentials)

So,based on the location of the moment, the scheduled backup, can start in one of the two sites.

Can veeam agent handle that scenario?
Or starting a backup against a folder tha doesn't contain the last set of backup can lead to corruption of the backup chain?

Or the backup job simply fails because the backup set is not "in sync" with the local backup histoty/metadata?

thank you
Max

We generally check for the backup chain on the backup target and when we see missing files we do not continue with the backup as it would mean that something is wrong with the storage.

You can define 2 backup jobs and use it maybe that way ?

Hello Max,

No that's not going to work: information about restore points is stored in Veeam Agent for Windows configuration to ensure the backup chain consistency. If you want to use multiple backup locations you can use paid version of Veeam Agent for Windows and configure multiple backup jobs (one for your work location and another for your home location). Cheers!

Sorry. Just some another clarifications.

About licensing:
I need the workstation or the server edition?

https://www.veeam.com/it/products-editi ... rison.html
From this table (at least for me) is not so clear.

The license is subscription only? or it can be perpetual?

what is the minimum price (or price/year) for 1 laptop?

Technical:
In the above comparison table, i seet that even the free version can backup against rotating usb drives.
That scenario is non so different from mine. what are the key difference?

thank you

Server edition.

Subscription, agents do not have perpetual licenses.

You need to check with local sales folks, as far as I know several parents can provide single agent licenses at a good price.

Rotated drives are block-level devices (i.e. USB drives or RDX devices), while file share is a remote target. Agent simply does not have the logic to threat file share as rotated device. Cheers!
