Clean uninstall procedure
I started using EndPoint.8.0.0.1822 on a Windows 8.1 64bit PC some months ago. Later I uninstalled it and installed VeeamEndpointBackup_1.0.0.1921_RC and everything worked fine.
After a power failure my .vbk file got corrupted, so i deleted the folder containing my backup job files, uninstalled VEB and installed EndpointBackup.1.0.0.1954.
After installing the new version I was unable to complete any backup.
The error I get sounds like:
04/05/2015 20.05.45 :: Error: Shared memory connection was closed. Failed to upload disk. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.SyncDisk}. Exception from server: Periodo di timeout del semaforo scaduto. Error code: 121 Failed to write data to the file [G:\VeeamBackup\Backup Job PCNAME\Backup Job PC0092015-05-04T195527.vbk]. Failed to download disk. (The semaphore timeout period has expired).
At that point I uninstalled EndpointBackup.1.0.0.1954 and attempred to reinstall VeeamEndpointBackup_1.0.0.1921_RC, but I was unable to complete the installation.
The installation program terminates, but I don't see any icon in the system tray neither I can start VEB in any way.
I presume I made an error so I would like to restart from scratch.
Let me ask some questions:
- Given the problems I faced till now, what wersion should I install?
- How can I cleanup my PC and install the right version from scratch?
- Is there any additional hint to avoid similar problems in the future?
Regards
marius

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Hi,
Ideally you would use the GA version.
To uninstall it, please try the procedure I described here: http://forums.veeam.com/post143558.html ... ll#p143558
After that, reboot and install the GA version. Let us know the results
Thanks
Mike

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Waiting for an answer I fond the sugested procedure and I performed it.
However, I installed the VeeamEndpointBackup_1.0.0.1921_RC version.
Everythong looks to work except the icon in system try: neither user Administrator or the local user account I usually use see the VEP icon in the system try.
A local user account not involved in the removal and reinstall process still sees the icon and can use it.
How can I force the VEB icon in the system tray?
In the meantime I think I found a possible cause for the error, as it appeared for the first time after changing the USB wireless network interface.
If I disable the new USB wireless network interface VEB works fine, if I enable it VEB stops working with the error I reported.
Maibe it is faulty?
Regards
Marius

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Thank you for your message.
I made the check you suggest with no success.
Something got corrupted at user profile level.
The PC has 3 users, Administrator, user1 (the user usually used by the user) and user2.
User2 was not involved in uninstalling and reinstalling VEB and either sees the icon and can launch VEB control panel.
It's the user I currently use to perform and schedule backup.
If Administrator an User1 attempt to bring the icon to the system tray using the procedure you sugggest, they see the description but not the icon. So attempting to force it has no effects.
I suspect that something got corrupted, maybe in the users' Appdata folder or somewhere else...
Is there as way to clean up ther VEB installation at user profile level?
Once cleaned up the user profiles, should I uninstall VEB using the procedure in one of the previous answers and reinstall the latest version?
Regards

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Mario,
I suggest you to reinstall everything complexly in the way described below:
1. Uninstall Veeam Endpoint Backup
2. Uninstall SQL components (if it is possible and you are sure other software is not using it, otherwise skip this step):
- MS SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB
- MS SQL Server 2012 Management Objects
- MS System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012
3. Reboot the PC
4. Via regedit.exe add to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup key Name = Recreatedatabase Type = DWORD Value = 1
5. Start Endpoint setup
6. Once its complete delete the key from the step 5
Let me know how it goes.

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Thank you fior the answer.
I won't be able to perform anything till tomorrow.
Do you think that the suggested procedure will fix the users' profiles issues?
Should I skip the procedure descibed at: http://forums.veeam.com/post143558.html ... ll#p143558 ?

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Marius,
Veeam Endpoint Backup is installed per machine, not per user, so it should not rely on the user profiles (possibly, except local system account). The described procedure will force setup to recreate the data base in addition to fresh installation. The script provided before is not necessary if you follow my steps.

Re: Clean uninstall procedure
Sorry for the delay in updating.
I followed the procedure you suggested and now everything works fine.
The only change I made was deleting the contents of the Veeam-related folders inside the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ folders of the users reporting problems.
Thank you for the whole of your support.
