Cloud Connect single port

Post by carguards »

New Poster Here.

We Provide "Cloud Backup Services" using a product that requires port 443 and 80 ONLY to backup from the "travelling' Laptop to the Cloud. The product provides (Encryption / depude / remote management etc), however it is primarily designed for File Based backups only - There is a SQL and Exchange backup functionality, but it is weak and we dont use it.

Looking at Veeam for our market, (we are evaluating it internally at the moment) the setup time would be greater with additional setup costs and time (Onsite Customer Repository Server and Customer Firewall Changes)
BAAS Directly to Cloud with Veeam would be awesome, because it allows for the following

•Reduced setup and infrastructure required at Client
•Better Protection of Travelling Laptops – I have clients who do not have a designated home base.

A question regarding B&R95 v3 – Is it possible to set it up where the onsite Repository boxes only uses ports 80 and 443 to talk to Cloud Connect (have not quite figured this out yet – Have got a meeting booked with local Veeam reseller to check this out
The additional work required re Local Repository Firewall Changes is a factor that may delay our moving very small customers to Veeam. However, we are 80% sold on Veeam As a Product.

Re: Feature Request - Backup to cloud repository

Hello and welcome to the community Morris!

If you are interested in backing up physical servers directly to Cloud Connect repostiory my answer is yes. Veeam Cloud Connect can do that with the hand of Veeam Cloud Gateway component. Veeam Agent for Windows can backup directly to Veeam Cloud Connect infrastructure via single port configured on Veeam Cloud Gateway. Cheers!

I have been going through this document https://www.veeam.com/cloud-connect-ref ... v9_wpp.pdf

Our office Internet Connection WAN port is not a fixed static IP (V4) but is assigned by DHCP from our ISP. We are looking at building a POC Veeam Infrastructure in our office first - We are using https://www.veeam.com/cloud-connect-ref ... v9_wpp.pdf as a reference.

Is it possible to have the veeam infrastructure itself accessed from the Internet via URL only with a DynDns type resolution Services, or should we look at having secure tunneled Vlan Connections between the Client test sites and the POC Veeam backup infrastructure in office.

This will also determine our decision process on were we place production enviroements, the servcies offered and the customer costing plan

Your thoughts

Hello Morris.

Cloud Gateway is component that's going to be used by agents as a connection point. Is should have a public IP address accessible over internet as otherwise connection from the agent side over WAN would not be possible. Cheers!
