Enhancement suggestion

Post by ianbutton1 »

The usefulness of VAW would be much increased if the following ideas could be incorporated :-
1. Allow multiple backup jobs using the same source to run in parallel - so that a large store (filesystem, Exchange DAG or whatever) could be split into parts (e.g. groups of folders or mailbox databases) and only failed parts could be retried (instead of the whole job). At the moment, separate jobs (necessary if retry of a single failed component is required) have to run in series as the source is locked by each job, and this greatly multiplies the time taken.
2. Support the use of proxy servers, instead of all the data passing straight from source to repository
3. Support the use of HPE StoreOnce Catalyst stores as repositories (Veeam can use these for backing up VMs), instead of allowing only StoreOnce CIFS shares to be used for VAW. Dedupe load could then be lifted from the source server and left to Catalyst.

Without these improvements, VAW lags a little behind some competitive products, and in my view this should be corrected.

Many thanks
Ian
