Force VAW to start new backup chain - lost repository volume

Post by ntrantham »

I have Veeam installed on a physical server and I am backing up an ESX server with 6 VM's on it and another physical Windows Server.

The veeam server is the repository for the other physical windows server.

The Veeam server had a drive failure and I lost the backup repository RAID set. (Single drive failure on RAID 5, but was still unable to recover the data.)

Once the repository volume was restored all backup jobs were failing. They were failing because the previous backup files in the chains were all gone.

For the VM jobs I had to right click on the jobs and select "Active Full".

This feature is not there in the Windows Agent. I have tried re-configuring the job, but still get the same result. The job fails as soon as it goes looking for the previous files in the chain. How do I force the Windows Agent to start a new chain?

Hi Norman,

Did you try to initiate a rescan of the repository, thus the agent refreshes the DB and will start to produce new backup chains. Thanks!

How do you do this, I do not see that as an option anywhere in VAW.

I found it.. it is on the Veeam server. Looks like it may be working now. I kicked off the physical servers backup and at least it is getting further then it did before.

Thank you.

You're welcome! I'm glad you've nailed it.
By the way, I'm sorry for еру confusing question without proper explanation where to initiate the process. Thanks!
