FR: rescan repository from agent

Post by mjr.epicfail »

Hi all,

Sometimes a VBM file gets out of sync the the local DB of a Veeam agent (licensed).
In the current case we have a reseller that has 3 agents with the error: 5/31/2024 10:42:11 AM :: Error: Cannot proceed with the job: existing backup meta file 'xxxxx.vbm' on repository 'xxxxx-Repo' is not synchronized with the DB. To resolve this, run repository rescan.
The repository is currently a CloudConnect repository, but we have see this with local NAS repositories too.

For VAL there is an option to rescan the repository: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60 (not sure if this also works with CloudConnect)
But we don't see that for VAW.

Currently the only way to solve this issue is to delete the VBM file.
There must be a better way ;)

PS. a rescan on the SP (CloudConnect) side won't solve the issue.

Hello and thank you for your post Danny! Veeam Agent for Windows performs rescan automatically whenever backup job kicks in. Can you please share the case ID with us to review what's exactly misbehaving?

Hi Dima,

I didn't create a case, i have fixed the issue at hand to solve the problem for the customer.
If you want I can create some logs and create a case.

Hi Danny

We have a workaround (v12.1 and later) which may fix this issue.
Please contact our customer support team to get access to the registry key.

In v12.1.2 we have included a fix to prevent this issue from happening in the first place.
Please note, if you have existing jobs failing after an upgrade to v12.1.2, the registry key (or an active full) will solve it.

Hi Fabian,

This is a nice surprise, did you guys find a bug here?
Can you just share the key in a DM? I have no supportcase in place at the moment.

Hi Danny

The reg key works for a specific scenario (object storage as cloud repositories).
For now a support case is required to check if your scenario will benefit from the key.
We need to check the logs to see if you are 100% affected by this issue. Only then we can deploy the reg key.

Thats a bummer, as in the cases I got there is a SOBR with no offloading to S3.

Hi Danny

Give the support case a try.
Our internal bug tracker mentions SOBR (with object storage extends). It may have the same cause.
You can ask the support engineer to verify your logs against bug id 698600.
