Is this possible

Post by bhodge10 »

Hello,

I'd like to be a VCSP and host a Cloud Repository for clients. I noticed on the newest version of Veeam Agent for Windows (currently trying out the free version), there is an option to use a Cloud Repository as a backup destination. I would like to host my own infrastructure (I've got a 20TB NAS available) and would like to have the client's use my repository as a destination. Most of my clients are small offices with 1 server and everything I'm seeing is I would need to install Veeam B&R on the client and then install an agent on the computer to be backed up, which sends the job to my server.

What I was hoping to be able to do is installed the Veeam Agent for Windows (paid version) and then point the backup job to my repository, without the need of installing B&R at the client office. Is this possible?

Thanks,

This is not possible without installing VBR in your office. A cloud repository is part of Cloud Connect which is part of Veeam Backup & Replication so you'll need to have a VBR running somewhere with 24/7 uptime to assure your customers can send backups to the Cloud Repository. Tenant doesn’t need one.

I think, he has no problem to install a VBR Server on his sites.
On Tennant Site, he's asking if it's possible to use only the veeam Agent for sending the backups to a Cloud Connect Repository.

You can install only the veeam agent on Customer Site. You don't need to have a running VBR Server on your customer site.
You need a dedicated VBR Server on your site for Veeam Cloud Connect functionality. You can't share your VBR Server (which is doing backups) with your Veeam Cloud Connect VBR Server.

Correct, I have no problem installing it on my server(s) here, just want to avoid installing such a big software package on these single server clients. Would I only need to install Cloud Connect on my own equipment, set up a backup repository (using the storage on my NAS) and then point the Agent for Windows on my client machines to my repository? Also, is there a particular license through the VCSP program that I can install on these client Agent's?

Brad, I suggest you contact your local Veeam team regarding licensing as well as how to get this setup. It may be interesting to also look at the Veeam Availability Console which has all of this build in with a HTML5 web client to help you. It also has things like billing etc.

Your thinking of the setup is correct, VBR with Cloud Connect in your datacenter and your clients can use VAW and VAL to those repositories.
