QNAP stuck when Veeam access an out of space remote disk
I have a Windows 10 machine with Veeam 11.0.1.1261 running backups remotely to a SMB shared on a QNAP with QTS 5.0.1.2194. When the backup disk runs out of space (reach the quota), the QNAP machines get stuck (technically the smb process on the QNAP NAS is completely unresponsive and unkill-able and it prevents all other disk operation on the NAS until it is rebooted). QNAP supports things it might be something in the Veeam configuration.
Did anybody encounter anything like this? Any idea what I check in the configuration?
Thanks.

Re: QNAP stuck when Veeam access an out of space remote disk
Hi Jaro
Veeam doesn't have access to the QNAP directly. We only talk native SMB to the QNAP.
I don't see how Veeam can mess up with QNAP services. Maybe some overload in the SMB component on Qnap side when we cannot write SMB anymore. What happens if you try to copy files per file explorer to the QNAP SMB share after Quota has reached?
If you suspect Veeam agent as the root cause, a support case is required for analyzing the logs. We cannot analyze such technical issues over the forum effectively. Without case number, the topic will eventually be deleted by moderators.
If you like to ask questions about technical issues without a support case or experiences from other users, you can try our Community Hub at https://community.veeam.com/.
Thank you,
Fabian

(As expected) It complains that there is not enough space to copy the files.

Re: QNAP stuck when Veeam access an out of space remote disk
I also discovered the following.
Situation (a): QNAP NAS full/over quota. When running the Veeam backup, it fails as expected reporting that the target directory is full.
Situation (b): QNAP NAS with very little space (32MB left of 2TB). When running the Veeam backup, it hoses the NAS ....

Re: QNAP stuck when Veeam access an out of space remote disk
Hi Jaro
So the issue is, that the entire QNAP storage is full? Not just the quota was reached?
32MB is too low to run services. The QNAP also has to store files and probably other related files for it‘s services on this storage. Please make sure to keep at least 5-10% free of your available disk space.
Best,
Fabian

Just the quota reached. (There is space on the disk and increase the quote 'solves' the problem).
