Question about include/exclude filters

Post by fix-all-the-things »

Searching these forums and Google hasn't found what I'm looking for regarding filters.

I know that include and exclude don't work with volume level and that you have to select file level. That's fine. The problem is that if you try and do file level and then select an entire drive, it forces it to change to volume level.

We have a situation where some computers have a 2nd drive on D: and users may create new folders on the root of it. It's not feasible to constantly check every endpoint to see if a new folder needs to be added to a manually selected list. I need the entire drive selected so it will automatically grab any new folders that get created, all while using the include/exclude lists.

So how do you select a whole drive and keep it from forcing you into volume level backup?

Hi,
So how do you select a whole drive and keep it from forcing you into volume level backup?
Unfortunately currently there is no way how that can be accomplished. If on a file level backup you choose to backup the whole volume and then uncheck folders that you don't need to backup then you'll get volume level backup with only those folders that remained checked. Any new folder that appears in root will be included into backup. Such approach does not allow you to use exclude/include list though.

Thank you.

Well that's a bummer. This software really needs to work in a way that doesn't force admins to manually check up on it regularly. The devs need to add a rule that says "Backup any file that ends in *.___ anywhere on the drive, including in new folders."

Hello James,

Counted as a good feature request. Can you elaborate why the volume level backup is not good for you? Thanks
