Question concerning MSSQL 2017 and MSSQL localdb

Post by HenningH »

Hi Veeam users,

I'm running a Windows 2019 Server with MSSQL 2017 on a system.
I want to use Veeam Agent Free to Backup the Server.
As I read, Veeam agents needs to install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB.
I dont want to touch the MSSQL 2017 Databasesystem as all because its in production.
May I install the Veeam Agent and does it install the 2012localdb seperatly without coming in touch with the MSSQL 2017 ?

Thanks,
Henning

Yes, 2012 LocalDB is a separate install.

However, did you consider using an agent backup job that is managed by Veeam Backup & Replication? This removes the need for the database completely, and is more "enterprise" approach than a standalone agent.
