Restore with veeam recovery iso on a rocky/linux vm host
The following initial situation: several VMs with Windows Server 2022 are running on a vm host with rocky 8. One of the VMs is the Veeam Backup Server (we tried versions 11 and 12), which, among other things, runs on the Linux host via a direct connection on a separate hard drive backups created.
There are always problems with the recovery from the veeam recovery iso, which was previously created with B&R.
Problem 1: it takes forever for the virtio network driver to load from the virtio iso in the first recovery screen (around 10-20 minutes). Display: "please wait. installing driver"
With a Hyper-V host, the driver loads in a few seconds
Problem 2: Even if the virtio driver supposedly loaded successfully, in some cases it does not appear as available, preventing network connections to external backup servers.
As is well known, a Linux host on which the VM is running can only be restored using the Veeam recovery media, not via Veeam Backup&Recovery.
We've had this problem for years and are always surprised that hardly any questions are asked about it here in the forum.

Hello Peter,
If I understand correctly, you have a physical host running Rocky Linux 8, and you run virtual machines on it.
You use KVM as the hypervisor, right?
Rovshan.

Re: Restore with veeam recovery iso on a rocky/linux vm host
Maybe I described the problem a bit ambiguously: it is about creating a VM on the Linux host.
WinServer 2022 will later be created in the VM. To do this, the veeam recovery ISO is loaded on the VM (i.e. the Windows version of the recovery ISO, why did you provide a link to the Linux recovery ISO?).
When the VM is started for the first time by the Windows version of the veeam recovery ISO, the problems described above occur.

Is there a solution or is the problem at least known?

Hi Peter
Thank you very much,
Fabian
I suggest to open a support case, which is required for any technical issue. We cannot investigate recovery media issues over a forum topic. Please open a case with our customer support team and provide us with the case number.dw432948jkk wrote: ↑Jan 05, 2024 5:51 pm There are always problems with the recovery from the veeam recovery iso, which was previously created with B&R.
