S2012 r2 deduplication and encryption test result
hi
I have one b&r repository as target for testing endpoint backups. Repository is encrypted.
Only two disk from 24 is showed as encrypted in b&r console "disk (encrypted)". Why not all 24? try several times rescan repository
ddpeval tool show only 3.8gb saving for total 24vbk, 36vib files, total .1.45tb.
Repository have disabled "align backup file data blocks" but this is not relevant in this test? Option "use per-vm backup files is checked.
log result

Re: S2012 r2 deduplication and encryption test result
Hi phenton,
There is an existing UI glitch in VBR console: encrypted backup icon is not updating displaying the regular backup icon in UI. It’s going to be fixed in the upcoming version of Veeam Backup and Replication v9.5
Regarding the deduplication feature, I doubt that you see any significant deduplication ratio due the fact that you are using encryption.

yes, cant deduplicate encrypted backups.
Without enc., with 21 full clients backup and 19 incrementals next day space savings 34%.

Daniel,
Yes. Something to keep in mind – deduplication works perfectly for backup files with similar operating systems (since they have more identical blocks to dedup), so make sure you keep similar endpoints within one repository.
