Server Agent on Hyper-V Host and/or B&R Server

Post by jmlnet »

We're using B&R Enterprise Plus in our Hyper-V environment. It only backs up our server VMs on 1 host. We also have a host for RDP client VMs but those VMs are not backed up via B&R. I'd like to install the Server Agent on these two hosts but didn't find any resources here in the forum or in the manual about how it interacts with the hypervisor.

So, is the Veeam Server Agent functional on a Server 2012 R2 (or 2016) Hyper-V Host? If so, does it backup the VMs on that host? If it doesn't backup the VMs on that host (and it wouldn't make sense if it did as that's what B&R is for), how does it "treat" those VMs? The vhd files?

Also, will the Veeam Agent install on the B&R server? I have it installed on another server (physical).

Thank you!

If you install the agent it will backup the server based on your configuration. If you backup the entire computer the agent will treat those files as normal files and back them up. The best you can do is exclude the disk or folder where you have the VM's stored from the backup as you are already backing them up with VBR.
