Re: VEB and Windows 10 Technical Preview

Thanks Paul! We stick to the simple .iso download procedure from insider’s website and keep building the windows 10 lab from scratch to eliminate the possible issues such updates may bring. 10240 was the last available and now it seems that the insiders preview .iso download is closed.

So, according to Mike, the final build number is 10240.16405. This build is made of the original build 10240 with nearly 1GB patch (KB3074683) on top, which is potentially a lot of changes, so it will require a complete retest on our part (a few business days).

Just did a complete nuke of my laptop - deleted all partitions, including the recovery partition - did a clean install of Windows 10 - felt good - until I noticed that ...

1. The Windows product key isn't available, as it requires me to re-install Windows 8 from Recovery and do an in-place upgrade *sigh*

2. my Veeam Endpoint backup job, I ran before upgrading, isn't accessible, as I cannot install Veeam Endpoint in the final release of Windows 10 - "Current operating system is not supported or lacks the required service pack"

Hello Robert,
"Current operating system is not supported or lacks the required service pack"
Here is a workaround you can test.

I had the same issue after upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 RTM.
The reason the Veeam service cannot be started, is because of this error in the event viewer: Cannot access LocalDB instance folder: %%LOCALAPPDATA%%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\<instance name>. (Eventid 261).
If you go to this folder you will notice it isn't there anymore.

I think this folder got deleted in the upgrade process to Windows 10 RTM.

After I removed Veeam, in order to reinstall it, I got the error message saying: Current operating system is not supported or lacks the required service pack. See system requirements for more information.
Not matter what compatibility settings I try, Veeam will not install on Windows 10 RTM and throws the error mentioned above.

Pascal,
Have you tried this? You can even find the YouTube link to the video explanation in that thread.

Hi,

I have tried to reinstall Veeam like described in the post you linked.
When I first install the prerequisites, the localdb doesnt seem to get installed propperly. So I think there is a problem there.
I only haven't figured out how to install that localdb thing. Hopefully veeam will install after the localdb thing is up and running.

Kind regards

Pascal,
Have you installed the pre requirements in the following order?

- MS SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB
- MS SQL Server 2012 Management Objects
- MS System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012

All existing workarounds are now obsolete with version 1.1 generally available. Until the new version is published to auto-update servers, you can download and install this new version manually. Thanks!
