unable to install backup agent

Post by rubydragon »

Hey,

I'm doing a simple deployment to backup a local computer. I installed Veeam B&R and configured to backup my local computer. When it does a rescan, it gves an error stating it cannot access the network path.

2022-07-14 16:05:51 :: Unable to install backup agent: cannot connect to xxx Error: The network path was not found. (ERROR_BAD_NETPATH).

I'm not using a protected group but an individual computer.

- I can access admin shares in the form of computername\c$ or computername\admin$
- Windows firewall is turned off
- Remote registry service is enabled and running
- Is not a DNS issue as I can ping my hostname and it's answering in a form of IPV4
- I tried with computer IP instead of computer name
- If I edit the "manually added" group, I can test the entered credentials and everything passes.
- The rescan keep failing...

I'm out of things to try...

Hello,

That sounds like a technical issue. Please provide a support case ID for this issue, as requested when you click New Topic.

Without case number, the topic will eventually be deleted by moderators.

It seems, you have tried everything possible. As a last thing, you can try to disable Remote UAC on the client.
If that not works, please go forward with the case and let us know about the case number.

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
Value: 1

Best regards,
Fabian

PS: support can only help if you upload logs https://www.veeam.com/kb1832

Just to make sure we are on the same page, Veeam is installed on the same computer it will back up... There is no "remote computer" in my scenario.

If you just want to backup your computer, you don‘t require Veeam Backup & Replication.
You can just install the veeam agent for windows on the computer and configure the backup job directly in the agent. That would be the simplest deployment.

Do you need the entire Veeam Server for something else?

I prefer to have the whole thing as it includes all the options. I had veeam agent for windows before I uninstalled that version to install backup and replication. Could the issue be related with the old installation?

No, I don‘t think so. Uninstalling the agent shouldn‘t blocking you from installing a new one.

Please create the case as requested. Our support can analyze the debug logs which will show us the reason why it‘s not working.

Turns out the only account you can use is the disabled built in administrator. Any other administrator account you locally created cannot be used as it apparently is missing some access to whatever...

Normally you have to disable RemoteUAC to allow other user accounts with admin permission to access the admin share on a non domain joined machine.
The registry key I mentioned in my first answer will disable RemoteUAC.
