VAW and Instant VM recovery to VMware

Post by Cragdoo »

I've been looking at using VAW and Instant VM recovery to VMware as a migration tool, and I notice something during my POC testing worth highlighting

My source physical "server" is an i3 NUC , 16GB with a single socket 2 core CPU (4 logical CPU),

but when I perform the Instant VM recovery to VMware the specs are different, 2 sockets 2 cores and only 4GB of RAM

According to the VAW documentation
A restored VMware vSphere VM has the same settings as a backed-up Veeam Agent computer. During the restore process, Veeam Backup & Replication retrieves settings of the Veeam Agent computer from the backup and applies them to the target VM. These settings include:

Amount of RAM
Number of CPU cores
however it would appear the backup a) only considers physical cores and b) active memory when sizing the VM for the recovery.

Is this expected behavior?
