Is the network port usage, for a VBR / VAW integration setup, incomplete as listed at: Used Ports
We have a one box VBR (i.e. with all components inc. distribution function etc. on the same platform)
The agent side is VAW Server, centrally controlled from VBR
If we implement what is listed in the above URL we cannot do file level restores
When doing a file level restore you need to have the Netbios / SMB ports (TCP 135, 137, 138, 139 & 445) open
From: the VBR Backup Server To: the Veeam Agent Computer
But that is not listed ?
The URL states that TCP 135, 137, 138, 139 & 445 is only required From: the VBR Backup Server To: the Distribution Server
(and with everything on one box that is just local)
Also the URL mentions UDP and TCP for these ports - we see only TCP ports used, under what circumstances would UDP come into play ?
We are dealing with a secure setup, hence having to minimise open ports to the minimum required
thanks in advance

Re: VBR + VAW Network Port Usage
Hello,
Thank you!
Let me verify this with the QA team and ask our technical writers team to add it to the guide.Fledge wrote:When doing a file level restore you need to have the Netbios / SMB ports (TCP 135, 137, 138, 139 & 445) open

I will quickly check it with devs and will report back.Fledge wrote:The URL states that TCP 135, 137, 138, 139 & 445 is only required From: the VBR Backup Server To: the Distribution Server

Hi Vitaliy,
Was there any update on this to confirm exact port usage ?
Thanks

Re: VBR + VAW Network Port Usage
Hello Fledge,
RPC, DNS and DHCP queries are using 135 port, NetBios name resolution goes over the range of 137-139 and SMB queries use 445. TCP or UDP query over these ports can be issued by Operating System itself, so that's why we advise to keep these ports open for both TCP and UPD.
