Veeam Plugin for SQL / Backup Repository

Post by zacthompson »

Good Afternoon!

I have only been tinkering with Veeam Backup and Rep for a little over a week now. We will be using Veeam with Azure Blob for long term storage of SQL DB and application data for several hundred of our customers. I'm in testing mode and I'm trying to figure out how to best way to grab a single .bak file daily from the native SQL backup job. The problem I'm having is that we keep 3 days' worth of bak files in a single folder at all times. There doesn't seem to be a way when I configure a backup to do this. So, I wanted to be able to do this without setting the current day bak to a separate folder or setting up a separate backup job to do this. I was going down the path of using the Veeam SQL Plugin to do the backup and have it backup to my Azure backup repository but unfortunately, I haven't been able to set it or even get it to show up in the dropdown to select it. I can only see the local backup repository. Is this a limitation of the plugin and if so, does anyone know of another way to accomplish what I'm trying here?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Zac and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!

At the moment we support only these backup repositories. One of our top requests is a direct backup to an object storage but I cannot comment on ETA.

As a workaround, I suggest using SOBR and the Capacity Tier to offload data to Azure.

Thanks!
