Why haven't you consolidated the recovery points yet?

Post by sandroalves »

Hi friends.

I have a setup that still hasn't consolidated the 48 recovery points.

what am I doing wrong?

Is there any manual way to consolidate or delete older points?

Thanks.

Hello,
What is your schedule look like? I can see it is hourly. So 24 points daily, with synthetic saturday, it will be for sure more than 48.

If what you want is hourly backups for the last two days, please kindly enable synthetic to happen more often, like every other day.

Review that the synthetic happened on saturday as well. And perhaps change from points to days and put the last 3 days to start with, and then to the latest 2 which I think is what you are looking for, but add more synthetic days.

If you think after reviewing this, there is still an issue. I will recommend opening a support ticket and letting us the ticket number here.

Hi,

yes, my wish is to save two days of one and one hour points.

Wouldn't it be simpler for me not to use synthetic backup?

Another question that came up: Using this point option, I can't use the option to move points to cloud?

Thanks.

Oh, yes, you can use forever incremental if that will suit you better.

You can use COPY mode with SOBR and then you will have an exact copy of those two days, and all the points in the cloud.

MOVE will not have much sense considering you are keeping just two days, and without synthetic that produces "chains" you can not move anyways.

Back to the original question, have you reviewed my previous answer, and if not working as expected, have you perhaps opened a support ticket?

Thank you

Hi,

I kept the 48 recovery points and disabled the synthetic to assess if it will remain at 48 only.

Regarding SOBR, as I use the same scale-out for other daily jobs, I believe I will have a problem with COPY, as it will not have the desired effect.

For example, I have a 30-day job, with a MOVE of 15. If I activate COPY, it will always take 30 days to the cloud.

Thanks.

Hello,
Sounds good, keep us posted.

You can always create s second SOBR from the same physical repo, just another folder, and have a SOBR for your other job with MOVE, and this new one with COPY. I have a lot of logical repos, that go to same storage :) just different folders.

Seems quite critical this service you are protecting hourly backups. If possible, I would enable COPY to an Object with Immutability.

Cheers

Hi,

what great information, i didnt know i can have SOBR using the same physique, how amazing! I'll run to do it.

Regarding the 48-point JOB it seems to work well, it's rotating the 48 every hour.

Yes, they are database LOGs that are performed by SQL Server itself since we have already tried to use agentless or agent backup in an always on cluster with active/active nodes and when the routine was executed the node was removed from the cluster and caused an automatic failover.

Thanks.
