Same problem here after updating CentOS 7. I've no idea how to fix this.

Hi,

RHEL/CentOS 7.6 is not supported by the current version, the support for that kernel it will be introduced in the upcoming version of the Agent, which will be released very soon. As a workaround you can install dkms version of the 2.0.1.665 veeamsnap module, but please keep in mind that 2.0.1.665 has not been thoroughly tested against 7.6 and support cannot be provided in this case.

Thanks!

PTide, can you please explain how to install veeamsnap you are mentioning?
Running this on centos:
rpm -i veeamsnap-2.0.1.665-1.noarch.rpm

Throws an error:
error: Failed dependencies:
dksm is needed by veeamsnap-2.0.1.665-1.noarch
kmod-veeamsnap conflicts with veeamsnap-2.0.1.665-1.noarch

Hi,

To install dkms version of veeamsnap, you need to have dkms dependency installed and kmod-veeamsnap removed first:

Code: Select all

yum install epel-release
yum install dkms
yum remove kmod-veeamsnap
Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
I have ran the commands, and after installing I see some errors and also veeamconfig ui now does not want to run anymore:

Any update on the release of the compatible version of Agent for Linux?

We are a Veeam Service Provider partner with a large number of Linux machines in this state unable to be backed up. If the release is soon we can wait, otherwise we will need to go through the process with all our customers to switch to the DKMS version - even though it will be unsupported.

Given 7.6 was released October 30th last year, it is taking a long time for Veeam to provide a point release update of a kernel module.

Veeam really needs to do something about this process as we cannot tell customers they need to wait 2 months before applying patches just so their backups work - either way they will be out of compliance. Id like to understand how Veeam is going to address this issue more generically going forward - simply saying 'it's not supported till we decide to release something that works' just wont fly and will result in us (and I imagine others) migrating away from Veeam Agent for Linux as a Linux backup solution. You need to de-couple your Agent 'feature' releases from you kernel module updates so that your kernel modules follow the vendors releases closely (within days not months), otherwise you need to support DKMS on RHEL and derivative platforms - which one will it be? (or what other solution are you going to implement?) - support are useless in providing any information about how this is going to be fixed in the long term other than 'it's not on the support list so go away'

Chris,

We are already working towards such 'de-coupling' on our side. It is not very clear what you mean by saying that we need to support DKMS as the kernel module can be installed via dkms since v1. Rearding your other questions - I've sent you a PM.

Thanks!

[MERGED] Unable to load module. Accurate kernel version...

Post by ejenner »

We have a problem with one of our Linux machines. It used to backup absolutely fine. But a few weeks ago it stopped and displays these errors.

I tried removing and reinstalling the agent, that was fine.

My knowledge of Linux is pretty limited so any suggestions will have to be plain English or I may not understand.

Hi EJ,

Please see this thread for instruction how to overcome the issue using dkms. There are also options to request RTM build via support team, or wait until GA is released (which is happening this week).

Thanks!

If it is fixed in the new release then I can wait. Does the new release fix it?

New VAL v3.0 with support for new distros including RHEL/CentOS 7.6 is already available.

Thanks!
