[BETA2] LVM/Logical Volumes with partitioning fails to back

Backing up LVM-volumes with partitioning failed with Beta1 and Beta2.

The LVM volume is 10GB and fails to backup.
Several LVM volumes seems to work flawless and others fails to backup.
So Veeam works fine with LVM volumes, but after doing some research it seems it don’t work on LVM volumes with partitioning inside that Logical volume.

So vda is ab-disk-—5105 and vdb is ab-disk—5106.

On the host the output from lvs shows that the volumes are “o” which means they’re “open” and so in use.

To make clear what works and what fails:
- When backing up disk-5107 (vdb/swap) it works.
- When backing up disk-5106 (partitioned vda) it fails.

It looks like Veeam tries to recognize the blockdevice inside disk-5106 and fails:

I need to make clear that scanning LVM-volumes and mounting them when they are recognized as supported filesystem like EXT4 is bad.
Years ago accidentally we destroyed 30 VM’s because of this: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=556739
So please please be careful when fixing the deficiency I report here, and don’t make the same mistake

Hi and welcome to the community!

So Veeam works fine with LVM volumes, but after doing some research it seems it don’t work on LVM volumes with partitioning inside that Logical volume.

I've heard of that problem before, the only difference that LVM built-in snapshot functionality had been used. Let's see what we can do here.

VM (KVM) running on ab-disk-—5105 and ab-disk—5106

What's the bus that you used: scsi/ide/virtio?

vda is ab-disk-—5105 and vdb is ab-disk—5106

I'm a little bit confused with the outputs that you've provided, as I can clearly see that vda is 10G while 5105 is only 2G. I guess that in fact vda is ab-disk--5106 because it's 10G while 5105 is only 2G, and vdb is ab-disk--5107 since it's 4G. Is that correct?

Please also provide an archive of /var/log/veeam directory (use share folder or any other filesharing service)

The logs and names of volumes I provided above are sanitized.
What are you looking for in the logfiles? I just did a line-count on all logs... 30.000+ lines. That takes some time to sanitize and I need to ask someone to checkup the sanitized logs.

We usually require Agent.Source.log and veeamsvc.log files as they contain driver information which is not fully displayed in Job.Log, but let's wait and see if the development team will request any additional info.

P.S. As for log sanitizing, it seems that you do not have much trust in grep/sed/awk, do you?

Hi,

You can contact our support team to request the fix that adjusts VAL's behaviour so that it automatically skips such LVMs instead of failing the job. That is, currently there is no support for LVMs that are passed to VMs as virtual disks.
