Recovery Media over serial console

Post by staley »

Anyone know the right knobs to turn for the Recovery Media to work over a serial console?

I've made some progress by making my /isolinux/isolinux.cfg look like this

Code: Select all

SERIAL 0 115200
CONSOLE 0
prompt 0
noescape 1
default l1
label l1
kernel velinux console=ttyS0,115200n8
append initrd=initrd.img console=ttyS0,115200n8
Might need something in grub2.cfg too but I'm not sure.

The last thing I see on my console is...

Code: Select all

starting pid 434, tty '': '/etc/init.d/rc.3'
Starting NFS common utilities: statd idmapd.
starting pid 461, tty '': '/etc/init.d/rc.4'
starting pid 463, tty '': '/etc/init.d/rc.5'

Hi,

Currently Recovery Media does not support serial consoles. Does CLI interface work by the way? If it does then please use it to perform restores. If it does not work then you might want to stick with the following workaround:

1. Run Debian Livecd that supports serial console and install VAL there.
2. Use CLI to perform restore operation (please refer to the user guide or man veeamconfig for directions.

You're not the only person to use VAL with serial console, so I consider you post as a feature request. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the workaround... I can try that.

The CLI doesn't work over serial either, it throws the below error. It works fine if I ssh in of course.

Code: Select all

Error: Colors is not supported.
NoColor: Unable to create color pair [0;7;2097152].
