Restore of PostgreSQL

Post by jtkw »

Hi, I'm new in Veeam Software, so maybe my question is very simple, but I can't figure it out how to properly do a backup and restore a PostgreSQL Database on a Linux server.
I'm using Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition v11.

So far I was able to add a Backup Job from the console with the settings like below:
  • Type: Server
  • Mode: Managed by backup server
  • Proceted Computer: one via IP, sudo user credentials
  • Backup Mode: Entire computer (Only for tests but I don't want backup entire computer. Is it correct to backup only /var/lib/postgres directory?)
  • Schedule: Periodically every 30 minutes Guest
  • Processing: Enable application-aware processing
    • Require successful processing
    • PostgreSQL: Use guest credentials
    • Database user with password
Backup has finished successfully. Veeam can login to psql, everything was fine.
But now is the question, how to restore this?
Is that a good way to restore database files via Guest Files Restore Wizard and overwrite existing?
Is it possible to restore PostgreSQL like the MS SQL?

Hi,

Currently Veeam does not provide an Explorer for Pgsql. That is, the only option to restore pgsql is to either get the database files from the backup using FLR, or to restore the whole machine/disk.

Thanks!
