Veeam agent for Linux - large file system backup - slow performance?

Post by ARycroft »

Hi,

Please can you advise me? We are backing up our Oracle database using RMAN to a file system using a Veeam Linux agent pre script. We are then backing up the RMAN filesystem backup using the Veeam agent. The database file system backup is 16TB. The backup using the Veeam agent takes a long time. Is there are a way to enable multiple streams for the file system backup, and increase the performance rather than doing a single stream?

Kind regards

Hi Andrew

What job type are you using? Volume Level or File Level?
Is the change rate of the RMAN Files 16TB each day?

Thanks

Hi Fabian,

It is a volume level backup. The compressed RMAN backup of the full Oracle DB is around 16TB.

Hi,

What's your target storage, and what are the bottleneck stats?
Are you backing up the entire machine, or just the database filesystem?

Thanks!

Thank you for asking us to check,

The target is an HPE Storeonce Catalyst store. It is just the database filesystem.

The bottleneck stats are:-
Source 0% > Proxy 1% > Network 0%> Target 89%

I found these quite surprising. Why is the target so high?

Target bottleneck means that target disk writer component (backup storage gateway or backup storage itself) is busy most of the time.
Please check this article that describes how Veeam communicates with HPE Catalyst and offers some hints how to optimize its performance.

Thanks!
