Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Hello,
Do these accounts need special roles assigned? Like SharePoint Administrator? Teams Administrator?
I need to add some and whether I use an app password or not depends on this.
We are using Modern Authentication with legacy protocols and only specific roles use MFA.

Thanks.

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Hi Rebecca
If you use additional Backup Accounts to backup OneDrive and Sharepoint Data, you don't need to give them any special role inside Microsoft 365.
Veeam will automatically grant the security group the Site Collection Administrators role to each spo site.
Hopefully this helps to decide if you need to use MFA or not?
You can find this on this pages:

Addind AccountsTo configure backup accounts, you use Microsoft 365 user accounts. You do not need to grant them any permissions or assign roles to them. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 automatically assigns the required roles to configured backup accounts.
The entire security group will be granted the Site Collection Administrator role. If a user ceases to be a member of the selected group, the role is automatically revoked for this user.

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Thank you! I've added them now, I believe correctly. How can I tell if Veeam365 is using them?

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
You can check backup job logs - there are statistics displayed in the logs upon job completion.

Try this location:
Logs for Backup and Backup Copy Jobs
Logs for Backup and Backup Copy Jobs
%ProgramData%\Veeam\Backup365\Logs\<organization_name>\<job_name>

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Thank you! Interestingly I don't have a folder with my organization name. I think I found what I was looking for though.
Thanks again for all the help! I have/had a ticket in but they did not understand what I was asking. #05341342

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Hi Rebecca,
Logs structure has been changed in v6. If you're running an earlier version, the path should be as follows: %ProgramData%\Veeam\Backup365\Logs.
And I'll talk to your support engineer to make sure we all are on the same page )

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Thank you all for your help. I've added the accounts and still have support case open b/c backups are still SLOW!
The support rep sent me this article https://www.veeam.com/blog/automate-aux ... e-365.html.
The PS script in the article is adding the accounts to the SharePoint Administrator role. I thought no roles were needed for these accounts? Now I'm confused.
Thanks!

Re: Adding Additional Backup Accounts
Hi Rebecca,
Auxiliary accounts do not require any preconfigured roles, but when added to VB365 the group they belong to is automatically assigned with the Site Collection Administrator role.
So, I'd say that this step described in the blog is extra and not required.
