We are trying to restore items, folders, lists, libraries and documents to their original location. However when executing those requests we get the following message returned:
You can restore to the original location with restoreTo.
restoretoOriginallocation is only applicable with MFA enabled organizations so it depends on how you authenticate against it (which is unclear from your initial post).
Also, on the helpcenter, we have a button "Send feedback" which will allow you to drop an e-mail and if something is wrong, we will correct it and you'll get an update via mail (sometimes beats support).

This is a candidate for another support ticket, I'm afraid. With a separate case ID, it'll be much easier to track it and escalate to RnD. And, please share the ID here for the followup.
I'm really astonished if anyone is fully utilizing the API. We've stumbled on so many bugs, it's unbelievable. I know there are SP's using the API for self restore functionality, guess they are not fully utilizing all the features.
