Backup from MSFT365 to MSFT Storage (or better AWS?)

Post by StephanG »

Hi everyone,

recommendation is that your backup storage is not in the same "room" as your productive data.
How did you decide?
Did you go multicloud and use Wasabi or AWS for the backup or did you stay with the whole solution @ Microsoft?

Are there any advantages to be in the same basket? (if you take out the easier management)

If there is already a discussion here - i did not find it. :)

Hi @StephanG

I will not take sides on what is best. It will depend on a few items that you need to take with your management:
* What location does the backup needs to be
* What are the legislation/ legal rules
* Pricing (there are some differences for sure)
...

The only additional thing I would like to add is: In case of Azure storage, the backup data is not in the same room as the production data. M365 datacenter and Azure datacenters are fully separated so you don't need to worry that much about it. You can even create a separate subscription for the two to be even more "separated" if you want to.

Just for information - we decided to take AWS in another EU country than our "M365 files"
