HI,
One of our customers has a huge public folder structure (over 20000 folders) and I'm looking for the best options to handle the backup of the public folders. I have the following questions:
1) Is it possible to specifically include or exclude public folders in a backup job?
So far I have only found the option to backup the entire organization and then exclude everything except Mail and Archive. If possible, I would like to split the job into 2 backup jobs. One for all "normal" mailboxes and one for the public folder mailboxes only.
2) Is there an option/checkbox to easily exclude the backup of public folders when using the Organization option?
So far I could only come up with either avoiding the organization option and specifying the user/shared mailboxes individually or via groups (which can be tedious even with dynamic groups) or removing the required permissions for backing up public folders (but then we get warnings about missing permissions).
3) Is there a way to backup only selected public folders?
The only way I have seen so far to achieve this would be to grant ownership only to these folders. But then we get the missing permission warnings again. Is there a way to suppress these warnings?
Thanks for your help/thoughts
Jens

Re: Best way to handle public folders
Hello ahlreep
1. Create a backup job that includes your entire organization and select the processing options for "Mail/Archive". In this job, you need to exclude the root public folder mailbox.
2. Create a second backup job that specifically includes the root public folder mailbox.
This way, you can manage the backup of public folder mailboxes separately from the rest of the mailboxes, ensuring both your standard mailboxes and public folder mailboxes are backed up according to their specific needs.
Permissions need to be configured as documented in our user guide. We need to have the appropriate permissions to "read" the content in order to protect it.
Best,
Fabian
In a backup job, you can include or exclude mailboxes, but not specific public folders.1) Is it possible to specifically include or exclude public folders in a backup job?
You can split your jobs using the following approach:So far I have only found the option to backup the entire organization and then exclude everything except Mail and Archive. On the step for "excluding objects", add your Public Folder mailbox.2) Is there an option/checkbox to easily exclude the backup of public folders when using the Organization option?
No, you can only back up the entire content of a public folder mailbox or nothing at all.3) Is there a way to backup only selected public folders?
The only way I have seen so far to achieve this would be to grant ownership only to these folders. But then we get the missing permission warnings again. Is there a way to suppress these warnings?
