browse exchange backup showing deleted items as well
Hello everybody,
I've got a VBK containing vbo backups. Now I can easily right click on the backup in B&R and select the exchange explorer restore, but it doesn't ask me if I'd like to browse deleted/changed items as well or for which timestamp I'd like to browse - in comparison to the restore wizard in vbo. Since it's the same explorer there must be a trick to achive the same result.
Please shed some light on that - thanks very much!

Hi Michael
Unfortunately, you can't choose this option when using the VBR console todo the restore.
The option isn't part of the Explorer. It's a feature built in to the VB365 Console.
If you want to restore the data with deleted items, you can start the vbo vm in a instant vm recovery session with a new IP address and start the restore this way.

Re: browse exchange backup showing deleted items as well
Hi Mildur,
thanks for the input. So how does it work then? I guess the explorer exclusively reads items from the databases, including the deleted ones. If not, which component reads & "sends" those deleted items to the explorer?
Thanks!

Re: browse exchange backup showing deleted items as well
What I meant was, the GUI option to choose "browse deleted/changes items or not" is built-in in the vb365 console. The Explorer is then used to read the content of the backup.
I'm not sure how vbo handles the connection between the console and the explorer.
Let me ask my team about it. I'll come back to you when I have the answer.

Thanks Mildur. Just as an information: I remember there's an CLI option to start the explorer and pass some arguments like the point in time (I know that from a previous case with the support team). So probably there's another arguement for doing what I've requested. Thanks!

Re: browse exchange backup showing deleted items as well
Hi Michael, short update.
I have tried the restore scenario in my lab.
VBR will not show you deleted or changed items in the explorer. You will see the exact state of the mailbox as in the last taken VB365 backup.
For choosing the VB365 timestamp, you can choose a VBR restore point which was immediately taken after the VB365 backup you need to restore the data from.
I don't know your VBR retention, but depending on the retention, you will have at least the functionality to choose from the last few days or weeks.

- VBR can restore the last backed up state of the mailbox (similar to our restore portal) from the VB365 Backup as found in the chosen VBR Restore Point. "Deleted/changed items" will not be shown.
- VB365 can choose the date of the restore point and if you want to "browse deleted/changed items"

Hi Mildur,
before I answer your questions, let me please ask another one: Is there an option to access older tickets in the customer portal or tickets to expired licenses? Because I know I had a case where such an option was mentioned, but I can't find it anymore...
Thanks!

Re: browse exchange backup showing deleted items as well
Hi Michael
I checked with the team.
We don't have a public CLI commands to use inside VBR to let the explorer choose from a specific VB365 restore point.
If you need a specific restore point, you will have to leverage Instant Recovery for now. The feature is only available in the VB365 console, GUI or powershell.
You could open a general inquiry (support case) and ask about the old cases. But my answer will be the same, there is no supported CLI command in VBR to choose this options for browsing VB365 restore points.

I don't know that. Is it possible, that the cases were opened by other user accounts from your company? Is there an option to access older tickets in the customer portal or tickets to expired licenses?
