Can you mix job types (local repository and s3) to meet the 3-2-1 rule?

Post by cerberus »

Using latest VBO 6.x to backup our O365 tenant (exchange, teams, sp, etc.), and in reviewing the 3-2-1 rule on bp.veeam.com it provides details on how to do this using Object storage OR local storage.

Can you create two backup jobs to backup the same user, the only difference being that one job is configured to use S3 repository and the other is configured to use local storage repository.

Are there any issues with this from a technical and support perspective?

When you go to restore data and you right click on Organization, where does it pull from (local or s3)? It does not seem to give you the option from what repository to pull from when restoring user data...

Ultimately, once VBO 7 comes out I will look to remove local repositories and leverage s3 backup copy jobs for immutable backups, in the mean time looking to leverage existing on-prem infra as one of the repo targets.

Hi Mirza

Yes, you can do that. Just don‘t run the jobs at the same time. Only one job would protect the source object, the other would exclude it from the current run.

You should be able to choose a restore point in time. Choose the time when the s3 or local job was processed.

Thanks,

Thanks for confirming Mildur, I seem to recall reading something about source object excludes if they are in multiple jobs and the reason for my post.. good to know it works so as long as we make sure the start/end time don't collide between s3/local repo jobs.
