Cummunity Edition Licensing

Post by markus.grabner-res »

How is the 10-User-Limit for Cummunity Edition calculated? Is it the number of User Mailboxes in the Tenant or is it the number of User Mailboxes I want to backup (so, if I have like 15 User Mailboxes in my Tenant and I exclude 6 of them from backup, can I still use the Community Edition)?

Thank you for all your kind answers

Hi Markus

It's calculated from the user you are doing backups. If you only backup 9 user mailboxes, then only 9 users will use one of this free licenses.

But be aware of doing backups of Teams and Sharepoint Sites. If all 15 users are granted access to a sharepoint site, which you need to backup, all 15 users have to be licensed. Same goes for the teams. If you backup a team, you need licenses for each member of the team.
After 31 days without any new backup of an user (or his teams/sharepoint sites), the license can be reused for new users.

Read more about the licensing here.

Seems, community edition behaves a little bit different than the normal version for Teams and Sharepoint Sites.
In this case, the product will operate in the Community Edition mode that allows you to process up to 10 user accounts, up to 1 TB of Microsoft SharePoint data and up to 10 teams in all organizations. Community Edition mode is not limited in time and does not have limitations in terms of program functionality.

Correct,

We decided to put different terms for SharePoint and Teams because if you only want to protect 10 users, and you are running a few other services also, the changes that you are going to break the rules are potentially high. So we decided to do it a bit different :-)
