Deployment Scenarios

Post by Joeri85 »

All,

At the moment I'm at the drawing table for implementing Veeam Backup for Office 365.
In the guides i'm missing some deployment scenarios.

The ones I can find are either completely in Azure or completely on-premise.

Would it be possible to have the backup server on-prem and the backups in an Azure Blob? I think this should be possible but where should I place the proxy in this kind of setup. And how is the data flowing?
I'm trying to achieve backup directly to an Azure Blob without straining the on-prem internetline as we are talking about a 1000 mailboxes for this particular case.

If I have to run a proxy in Azure than it's probably better to go for a cloud only setup as the backup server itself can act as a proxy.

As said before i'm not completely aware of the data flows so I can't come to a good design at this moment.

Hi Joeri,

The backup flow goes through a proxy, and if you're planning for an Azure Blob repository, it'd make sense to run a remote proxy in Azure as well. For the VBO server, it's your choice to either run it on-premises or on the cloud - both options are possible.

With 1K mailboxes, technically, you can go with an all-in-one installation and deploy the VBO server with the built-in proxy role in the cloud.

Doesn't the Backup Server and the Proxy Server need to be an the same network?

They need to be able to communicate with each other but your question is a bit vague in terms of which part you mean. You can perfectly install VBO console on-premises and use a VM in Azure which will do the converting to Object Storage. You can find
the used ports
in the user guide.
