Hello,
I work for a German IT system house. Our customers keep asking about the possibility of offline archiving from the Office 365 tenant.
Does anyone here have experience of doing this with Veeam for MS 365?
Or does anyone know if this is on Veeam's agenda and might be an option in the future?
I have not yet been able to find an alternative provider that offers this completely, i.e. for Exchange, OneDrive and SharePoint.
Greetings,
Tobias

Re: Offline-Archive with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
Hello Tobias
Offline archiving capabilities depend on the type of repository.
jet based repositories: You can use a Veeam Backup & Replication VM backup job or a Veeam Agent backup job with guest processing to create a consistent backup of the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 (VB365) backup data. Such VBK file can be written to tape or external disk. You could also use a File To Tape job if you disable all VB365 services before starting the job.
For restores, either you have to restore the entire server from the VBK files or restore the repository files and mount it as a new repository.
object storage repositories: Today we don't provide a support method to create an offline backup of such backups. What you can do is creating immutable backup copies to supported object storage. It's not offline, but its an effective protection for your customers backups.
Best,
Fabian
