hey!
I am running VBO365 for our Mailbox backup since quite some time now.
Now I have a requirement to backup only ONE OneDrive account, including Auditing.
In the Organization I have only chosen Exchange Online to be protected right now.
In the current backup job I have selected to backup the entire organization & have excluded some users.
This leads to me backing up the entire organizations Mailboxes, without backing up OneDrive and SharePoint.
If I enable the OneDrive and SharePoint protection on the Organization level, my job will try to backup the whole organizations 1D and SP data, which I don't want to do.
Solution could be to Exclude OneDrive for all users and all SharePoint sites, but when a new user is created and automatically picked up by VBO365, I would need to manually exclude his 1D backup from the overall backup job, or when a new SPO site is created, I would need to manually exclude it as well.
If I set the objects to back up to "the following objects" I think new accounts' mailboxes will not automatically be added to the backups?
So either full organization with exceptions which I need to manually manage for new employees and sites, or not full organization & I need to add every new employee manually?
Why would the decision to backup 1D and SPO be on Organization level anyway? Why not on job level?
Does anyone have a nice solution for this maybe?
Thanks!

Re: OneDrive Backup only for one Account?
Hi @jochot,
SharePoint and OneDrive protection requires specific permissions for a service account (or application) that is used to access organization. By separating Exchange and SharePoint/OneDrive services, VBO allows for more flexibility when choosing a backup account and granting it with permissions. Otherwise, the only way to go would have been using a Global Admin, which is not suitable for many customers.
Now, there're options on how to achieve the protection scenario you're looking for. Select to back up "following objects" and pick 'Organization' from the list of objects. Next, edit processing options a select to back up only mailboxes for this organization. This way the job will process all mailboxes within your organization.
For OneDrive, you can either check the corresponding box for the entire organization (and the job will back up all OneDrives), or select a specific user, edit their protection options again and only keep OneDrive selected.
And, just in case, here's how it's described in our documentation: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=40
Thanks!
