T2T Migration - Bulk Removal/License Update

Post by Sweemz »

Hi All,

I hope you're all well and thank you in advance for your assistance.

Ok, so I've recently completed an O365 Tenant to Tenant migration of 9 businesses due to a rebrand of the Group.

Both organizations (Tenants) exist in Veeam backup for Microsoft O365 and are configured using Modern Auth / MFA.
Each business has multiple jobs (1 x Exchange/Archive Job, 1 x SharePoint Job, 1 x OneDrive) and these exist twice as we target Engineers / Office Staff separately with different retention policies.
Example Engineers = 1 Year Retention / Office Staff = 5 Years Retention

Veeam Organizations Key
A = Organization 1 (Old O365 Tenant)
B = Organization 2 (New O65 Tenant)

Situation
So A has data that I cannot lose due to legal (not migrated/leavers) but at the same time has jobs that are now duplicated i.e. exist on A & B due to the tenant migration.
The duplicate data is vast (user count is in the thousands) and so I'm not sure on how to target/bulk remove the data / licenses for the duplicated jobs. I've done it for single users (PowerShell) but not for entire Jobs/repositories. Is this possible?
  • For the Jobs that are duplicated I do not care for the data and so this can be purged as my Main goal is to release the licenses here.
- Can I bulk remove the data & licenses / is this instantaneous or do I have to wait 31 days?
  • I can't target the organization (A) as there are jobs/data that I need to retain/pst out.
Hopefully that all makes sense, I can elaborate further if needed.

Many thanks!

The logic would be the same here. You'll have to use PowerShell to remove the data.

The license, by default, comes free after 31 days but the data will still be there. From your request, you can just remove the data and license via PowerShell and speed things up.

Removing the data can be done via Remove-VBOEntityData and for the license, you can use Remove-VBOLicensedUser.
