Unreliable restores since upgrading to version 8

Post by pat_ren »

Anyone else having issues with actually restoring backups since upgrading to version 8?

Had this issue several times and haven't gotten anywhere with support yet, trying again with a new case today.

When we try to restore a mailbox back to 365, even a small 10-15GB mailbox, it gives a ridiculous ETA of 20-40 hours, progresses for 12-15 hours and maybe gets to 20% progress then always fails with the same issue.
'Failed to get task result because the task is running (ID: xxxxxxx)'

Seems to be a consistent issue across multiple restores, saving individual files or saving to PST does work but that's not a good solution most of the time. Restores directly back to the users mailbox always have this problem.

So far upgrading to v8 has been the worst mistake of 2024 for me, been nothing but problems even now, months later.

Anyone seen this before? I have an urgent restore I'm trying to complete that should take 20 mins but instead I'm on day 2 with no solution in sight yet. Getting extremely frustrated with 365 backup, my boss is already looking for alternatives.

Hello Pat

I'm personally not aware if this is a known issue or not. Our support team has better visibility into reported issues for our products through support cases.
I suggest to use our Talk to a Manager option to escalate your case to the next tier, especially if you have multiple cases open without a solution. Please provide the case number of every case you had about this issue in the talk to a manager form.
even a small 10-15GB mailbox
From my experience with EWS API on Exchange Online, it's more a question about the amount of items in a single folder instead of the size of the entire mailbox. Do you have maybe thousands of items in a single folder in that mailbox?
