Azure blob archive tier and immutability
When will immutable storage in Azure be supported? When will the archive tier be supported for object storage?

Re: Azure blob archive tier and immutability
Azure will need to release immutability before we can support it. They are working on it but there is no eta for release. Once it’s ready we can then begin looking at integration.
Archive tier is not yet supported for Veeam Backup for Azure. We are investigating this. Can you describe how you would like to leverage archive tier?

Re: Azure blob archive tier and immutability
Immutable blob storage is available. See details here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ ... le-storage
We would like to spool data from on prem to cool tier blob storage and then move to archive tier after 30 days. When data is moved to archive tier, Veeam gives an error saying archive tier is not supported.

Re: Azure blob archive tier and immutability
@jbader - you are correct that Azure currently has the ability to do immutable BLOB copies of data. The problem is that the feature is currently only supported at the container level, not the object level. Our implementation of immutability requires object level immutability. It's safer, more secure, and a stronger way to protect objects. We are waiting for Microsoft to release the object level API call. Once we have that, we'll begin testing and implementing Azure object level immutability into our products.
See this forum post here: https://forums.veeam.com/object-storag ... 64660.html. In fact, @dalbertson announced last week in that forum thread that the release date of the object level immutability API call was pushed by Microsoft. That thread would a good one to both subscribe to and monitor. All of the latest information is listed and explained there by our PM teams.

Re: Azure blob archive tier and immutability
On a side note, we are looking into supporting Archive tier in the nearby future as well. And in the long term (once Microsoft releases the API), we hope to support your scenario as well as soon as possible. But we can’t provide an ETA due to waiting for the API’s.
