Azure VM disk exclusion
I've just added storage to a VM running BNR in Azure, for the purpose of running copy jobs on Backup for Azure restore points to SOBR so we can offload them to immutable S3 object storage.
I realised as soon as I added the disk that I back up the BNR server with Backup for Azure in the same protection policy as others, which I'd intended to select for the copy. Obviously that's going to be a problem.
There doesn't appear to be any option to exclude disks in Backup for Azure? I would like to get the system drive for this server to immutable storage, are there any options?

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Hi Derek,
Currently, it is not possible to exclude disks from VM backup policies. As a workaround, you can potentially use our Veeam Agent to protect your BnR server.
Thanks!

Hi Vitaliy,
Found this post, we need this feature to. We are bumping into cases where we need the option to exclude disks. It's prefererend to have one single backup approach for all Azure VM's.
Regards,
Bastiaan

Another reason is that VAW cant backup to Azure Blob.

Hi Bastiaan,
Your request is noted and clear. Regarding VAW, I’ll pass on your request for direct backup to object storage.

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Hello,
we would need the feature to exclude disks from Veeam Backup for Azure backup policies.
For VBAWS this seems to be already possible, is there any ETA when this feature will be available for VBAzure?
Thanks!
Regards,
Oliver

Currently, we cannot provide the ETA, but we will evaluate how much effort it will take for the RnD team. Can you please share what kind of data you want to exclude on that disk?

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Hello Vitaliy,
we want to set up and Veeam Backup for Azure environment which backups the OS disk of the VMs only, so just an option to not backup all other disks.
Our use case is, that we don't want to perform backups of the whole server everytime.
Thanks!

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Ok, so data on data disks is not important, or are you protecting it with something else?

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Yes, we are already protecting the data on the cloud vms with a different backup solution, but file-based via backup agent on the vm.
With the snapshots of the OS disk, we want to give our OS colleagues the possibility to restore a OS very quick.

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Aparently still not planned?
Meanwhile version 6 is out, still no option to exclude a disk.
We have a VM taoking up more than 30 TB of backup storage, which could be 10 TB is we could exclude one disk that contains a lot of data being modified evere day and that we don't need.

Re: Azure VM disk exclusion
Hi, yes this did not make it in v6 and is still on our roadmap. As a workaround, you could potentially leverage VBR with VAW to only back up the 10TB disk.
