1.4 GB of Veeam data in /appdata/local/temp/
Hi,
I just came across 1.4 GB of temporary files on my backup server in the administrators /appdata/local/temp directory taken by Veeam files in around 45 subdiretories.
Each of the directories contains the following files:
GuestIndexData.zip, Summary.txt, volume.C.ifd, volume.D.ifd
I have found similar file names in the VBRCatalog directory structure, so I suppose those temp files actually are what they seem to be... well... temp files
This raises two important questions:
- So is it safe to delete those files?
- Why does Veeam not clean up automatically?
Thomas

Thomas, generally the files should be cleaned up automatically. Temporary folder is used as an exchange point between guest and Veeam Backup Catalog service. If the service fails to take them away for some reason or is not even started, they could reside there for ages. I suggest you to check the Veeam Backup Catalog service, clean those files up and monitor the further behavior - if the files will not be deleted automatically, you can open a case. Thanks.

It looks like I get 2 additional directories each day, I will now delete the temporary directory and keep an eye on it.

Don't forget to check whether the service is running and keep us posted on how it is going.

Do you have Enterprise Manager service set up and configured, as this is what takes away guest file index data from backup servers.

Re: 1.4 GB of Veeam data in /appdata/local/temp/
Hi I'm experiencing the same here but with 13GB of data.
Mostly folder containing GuestIndexData.
Those file are indexes used but Enterprise manager, they should be kept here ( and auto clean according to the retention period ? ) or are they upped in SQL database and can be cleaned manually ?
If this files are necessary is it possible to configure them to be kept in different place on filesystem ( like dedicated folder on D drive for example instead of filling Windows System drive which is not good imho )

Jimmi, which Veeam B&R version are you using? Temporary files produced by guest file system indexing process were not correctly removed from AppData\Local\Temp folder in Veeam B&R v7, however this is already addressed in the Patch 1.

Our temp directory has 17 GB. of data and we're running version 7.0
Our support is expired, but can I still download the patches?
I mean, it seems 7.0 is sold to us incomplete since this is not completely working.

I believe you should be able to download and apply patch(es) without any issues. Thanks.

Re: 1.4 GB of Veeam data in /appdata/local/temp/
Howdy, I'm experiencing the same thing. 14GB in appdata\local\temp
I was running 7.0.764 (?) and was upgrading to v8 and noticed my C drive was about out of space. I free'd up a few GBs to facilitate the upgrade.
Before upgrading I ran across this post, I figured upgrading would result in a clean up but after a successful upgrade and subsequent install of patch 1 and a reboot, the temp directory still has 14GB. Most of the directories and files go back a year when we first started running Veeam B&R on this system.
I still haven't found an answer, is it safe to manually delete the oldest directories in temp? I'm talking directories with 2014 in the timestamp.

As mentioned above, you can delete those files or at least move them somewhere temporarily and check the further behaviour.
If for some reasons newly-created files present in that directory are stuck and not deleted in accordance with the set retention period, you should open a support ticket.
Thanks,

Thanks Eremin,
I've moved the bulk of to a secondary drive to see how it responds.

Keep us updated about the results of your findings.
Though, I think those files have been some odd remnants, and new files should be correctly deleted.
Thanks.

Howdy, after moving those temp files aside and running Veeam 8 for a couple months, they haven't been missed and new ones haven't appeared. Problem solved and old Temp files deleted.

[MERGED] Temp folder stuffed full of Veeam data?
Was poking around my backup server and discovered this Temp folder full of other folders, all of which appear to contain Veeam data?
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp
All the folder names appear to be a hex string, such as 63608684-a08c-47d7-bf84-edd5469204fa
Inside each folder is a set of files, for example:
GuestIndexData.zip
summary.txt
volume.C.ifd
volume.E.ifd
The contents of the zip appear to match the remaining three files.
Are these folders and files meant to be there? Can they be safely deleted? There is 10 GB of data in almost 2,000 files. Thank you.

Andrew, you can remove older files manually in case you do not need them. What Veeam B&R version do you use?

Hi Foggy, I'm using V9. Some of the folders date back to 2013! Thanks for merging my post, this thread is very helpful.

Then they most likely are from previous versions that didn't remove data properly.

Hi Stephan, not that I'm aware of, so I'd contact technical support for verification.
