Active Full query

Post by iroche »

Hi guys,

I have one job which backs up our file server its an incremental job which rung a Synthetic full every Saturday. I want to introduce an active full into this every second Saturday of the month. My query is around the current backup file set, I have 8 restore points 7 vrbs 1 vbk and 1 vib since Saturday. The vbk is 5.5TB in size if I run a active full this Saturday will this create a new vbk file ( so I will have 2 full vbk files for this job) ? The reason I ask is I cant accomadate to vbks of this size on disk, that's the reason I went with Synthetic full jobs .

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian, yes - active full backup creates new VBK file by definition of what active full is. Essentially, doing this starts new full backup "chain". Backup files from old chain will be removed gradually according to your retention policy. Thanks.
