Applying retion policy failure on ESX hosts

Post by gurpreet »

We have a few ESX hosts with each dozen of VMs on it. These VMs are backed up using Veeam.
Recently our backup job started failing with the following message:
Backup job 'FS' finished with Failed. Job details: Unable to apply retention policy: failed to delete backup files Error: Failed to call RPC function 'NfsCreateDir': Share root isn't registered. Url: [nfs41://XXX.XX.local:/volume1/veeambackups/FS].
Veaam retries the job, it runs fine and gives a warning that job had nothing to process and all machines were excluded from the task list.
To me, it seems like a permission issue but something happens between two jobs that do that clean up job anyway because old backups are being deleted according to the retention policy.

I could not find anything related to this issue so hoping to get a solution here.

Hello and welcome to the forums gurpreet!

Please let us know what B&R version you are referring to? The error you've shared indeed looks like a permission issue with the repository, so please check that account used during repository registration has read / write access. You also need to make sure that such repo is accessible from the gateway server you've assigned in the repository wizard. The best way to check - login to your gateway server and try to access NFS over the same account used in B&R configuration.

If that does not help to find the root cause, please raise a support case and share the case ID with us. Thank you!
