We are running Veeam B&R v12.1 and we are starting to use Ubuntu hardened repositories. We have this in place and works fine.
We also offload these backups to azure, we are using direct connection as connection mode.
On our (old) Windows repositories we used to set, netsh winhttp set proxy proxy-server="10.254.179.140:3128" so that the offload traffic would go through a seperate webproxy server (using another gateway).
I can't seem to get this to work on the Ubunt repositories. We tried:
sudo nano /etc/environment
http_proxy="http://10.254.179.140:3128/"
https_proxy="http://10.254.179.140:3128/"
But this does not work for the Veeam offload, that still uses direct connection mode.
Anybody any idea how to get this to work?

Re: Azure offload from Ubuntu through external proxyserver
Hi Peter
Have you considered to deploy a dedicated Linux server as a Veeam gateway server which uses the alternative internet gateway server for the offload to Azure.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Azure offload from Ubuntu through external proxyserver
Hi Fabian,
I have deployed a Windows gateway server and on this server set the netsh winhttp settings. So now al traffic is going through this gateway and to the webproxy server.
The alternative internet gateway is in another subnet, so I would need a dual homed appliance for this (hence the OPNSense proxy)
I was just wondering if it is (and how) possible to do this without a gateway server. On the Windows repos we don't need to use a gateway server, just the netsh winhttp setting.
