Backup file follows file system but

Post by devlopur »

While taking backup of any file it follows file system structure , but when i examined it the structure of the file was different so i am looking forward to get to know how the file is getting recovered . Because while using hex editor i am not able to jump from one particular location to the actual file.
At the end i want to know how to jump from MFT to file data as the number of clusters aren't sufficient

Hello Devlopur

I don't quiet understand your question. Why are you using a hexeditor? Are you using a PowerShell script?

Restore of single files is simple by using our FLR explorer:

You can find the description about the process in the user guide as well (example windows FLR):

i was doing research on it so what i found is while i am usign veeam B&R and creating a backup . That backup file follows the file system .
But the thing is that the file system ex- NTFS is sliced that means when i am trying to jump from MFT to the Actual data in hex editor i am not able to do that because the byte is not correct or i do believe there has to be some logic behind it .
So i was looking forward that how can i locate the files data in hex editor

May I ask, why do you need to know this? Our customers normally do not have to work on such a deep level with the product.
Are you facing any issues? If so, do you have a support case open?

Hi,

I think that if the file was partially recovered, then most likely you would not be able to use it at all.

What was the backup mode? Did you restore the file from a VM backup, or you used agent-based backup?

Have you tried to compare checksums (the original file vs the restored)? If those do not match, then you need to file a support case as Mildur has advised.

Thanks!
