Backup MS SQL

Post by ingmarcofilippini »

Hello to all,
I have a Veeam license for Virtual Machines.

Currently I have a VM (Windows Server) that acts as a Domain Controller.
MS SQL is also installed on it.

I've set up a backup of the entire VM every night, and it's ok.

If I had to restore a file, I do it easily.

If instead I had to restore the entire SQL Database, how do I do it?

:?
Thanks so much

Hello and welcome to the community Marco.

Please review this Help Center Backing up and Restoring Microsoft SQL Server Databases article for the detailed instructions and let us know if you still have any questions. Cheers!

Hello,

I tried to follow but I can not understand one thing:

I can backup SQL which is on a single virtual machine.

I have only one VM that does everything (DC, SQL ...) how can I make a backup of only SQL?

Someone correct me if I'm wong but, I don't believe that is possible. SQL usually relies on parts that are installed to the C:\ drive. Since Veeam is a image based backup solution, you'll need to grab it all to get a good backup of SQL.

Jeff is correct. Application processing requires periodic VM backup, so frankly speaking you must configure the regular VM backup job to protect your SQL databases.
