I think I found the reason ; proxy1 (win7) had smb v1 still enabled, disabled it and rebooted. Proxy2 (2012r2), had smb v1 feature removed and server was rebooted - but not logged in after. I guess it was not somehow completely removed before logigng in again.
Backups seems to be working now.
I have no idea why this prenvented backing up, I dont think veeam uses smb v1 ..

Are you running these hosts in backup job with application aware image processing enabled? Double check if you can access admin share of these hosts from backup server.
Yes I am. Double checked that, and it's working. It seems that backups are failing very randomly. Some VMs can be backed up with multiple retries.
Also linux VMs are affected
