Backups to NetBackup Help when separate server
Hi all
i am wondering if anyone can help me please. I have a virtual Veeam Management server, 2 virtual Veeam proxy/repo servers, a virtual NetBackup master server and a physical NetBackup media server with the tape robot attached via fiber. I cant get rid of NetBackup because we rely on it to backup our physical HPUX servers.
I am running V7 of Veeam and want to start the NetBackup job to tape after the Veeam job has finished. I know this can be done by the following:-
C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin>bpbackup.exe" -p MyTapeCopyJob -i
But this assumes the Veeam and master/media are the same server. Is there anyway i can start the NetBackup job on a remote server via a script? or install Veeam on the same server as the netbackup master? what is the best way to achieve what i need to do please?
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Re: Backups to NetBackup Help when separate server
Hello Michael,
Yes, you can install Veeam backup server on the NetBackup server (physical machine), but keep existing proxy server infrastructure. Alternatively, you can use either PowerShell or one of the ways mentioned in this article to run scripts remotely > http://4sysops.com/archives/three-ways- ... -commands/
Thank you!

Re: Backups to NetBackup Help when separate server
Thanks for the reply and links, few more questions please if you dont mind
Do VEEAM have a preferred method?
If i was to install on same server as physical NetBackup (media Server), would i then be able to write direct to Tape using VEEAM since the master can see the tape robot?
Are there any resource/tape robot problems if they both existed on the same server?
thanks again

Re: Backups to NetBackup Help when separate server
Yep, you would. Though, Veeam tape functionality may not work properly if there is other tape software that is installed on this server and that uses your tape device. Also, you have to use general Windows drivers, instead of specific ones.Would i then be able to write direct to Tape using VEEAM since the master can see the tape robot?
So, if you want to use Veeam as your primary tape solution, kindly, disable other software vendor services and uninstall specific tape drivers if any are utilized.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Vladimir
I cannot uninstall/disable NetBackup as I need it to backup our Physicals and HPUX servers, so it looks like Powershell is my only option correct?
thanks again

Hmm...why not to use PSExec? I believe it is the easiest way in your case.
