We are considering purchasing EMC NX4 units - 1 for our production site and 1 for our disaster recovery site. We received pricing on their replicator licensing and configuration. Veeam Backup & Replication is cheaper and seems to have a lot of great functionality. Does anyone here know enough about the Celerra Replicator to be able to contrast its features, performance, etc. with Veeam?
Thanks,
Angie

Re: Celerra Replicator
Hello Angie,
I'm not sure about all the details to give you in-depth analysis, but as far as I know Celerra Replicator is not an VM image-based replication solution. You can only choose entire LUN to replicate, which means no per-VM granularity (all or nothing), much heavier network traffic usage, plus you must have the same storage at the remote site to perform replication jobs.
This forces you to use specific types of storage with the product, while Veeam Backup and Replication is storage-agnostic solution that allows you to replicate between any storage (not necessarily same vendor).
Furthermore, as you have correctly posted Veeam Backup is cheaper alternative for Celerra Replicator, you may want to put us in the lab and evaluate the product to see how it works in your environment.
Hope it helps!
