Change shared folder name (path) used in NAS/SMB repository

Post by HDClown »

What is the best way to change "shared folder" (path) used in an existing NAS repository that uses an SMB share?

I want to rename the target server being used by these repositories and am hoping there is some way to do this without having to create new repository, scan for backups, update jobs, etc.

Hey HDClown,

In fact, making a new repository is the _simplest_ way.

1. Remove the existing backups from configuration
2. Add the new repository (same one with different name) and import existing backups
3. Remap the same jobs to the imported backups.

I know it seems like a lot, but we're talking 10-20 minutes of your day. This can be a coffee break where you just turn off Teams/Slack, put on some music, and do some clicking.

Changing such paths is a non-trivial exercise, and I get your desire to simplify it, but from a programmer's perspective, there isn't a "polite" way to store such data and allow for a complete name change. I've manually done this with with databases for some of my clients, but I want to stress it's an ugly process and I still worry I've missed key elements.

So do the above, and I hope you have some good music to listen to :)
